1. Our Academy

Ollin Yoliztli means “Life and Movement” in the Aztec Nahuatl language. Since 1994, our mission has been to preserve Mexican Folklore through serious study, movement, music, discipline, and community.

We are not a drop-in recreational program. Students are expected to attend consistently, arrive prepared, and show respect for the art, the instructors, and their classmates.

Remember:
Come ready to learn. Come ready to move. Come ready to represent our culture with pride.

2. Before Every Class

Please help your student arrive ready for class.

Students should:

  • Arrive on time.

  • Wear the required class uniform.

  • Bring the correct dance shoes.

  • Bring a practice skirt when needed.

  • Bring water only.

  • Keep hair secured away from the face.

  • Keep phones silent and away during class.

  • Enter the studio respectfully, especially when another class is ending.

Class uniform expectations include black stretchy clothing with no logos or letters, no jeans, appropriate dance shoes, and hair secured properly.

Simple reminder:
Dress ready. Bring water. Arrive on time.

3. The 10-Minute Rule

The first 10 minutes of class are important. This time is used for warm-up and conditioning, which helps protect students from injury.

Students who arrive more than 10 minutes late will not be allowed to enter class.

This rule helps keep every student safe and allows the instructor to begin class with focus and respect.

Please plan ahead:
Arriving early is always better than arriving rushed.

A class live-stream is available for students to view again later, or if they miss a class, and for parents to view while they wait.

4. Respect in the Studio

We ask all students and families to help us protect a positive, respectful learning environment.

Students and parents must be kind and respectful to instructors, staff, classmates, and other families. Bullying, harassment, verbal abuse, or physical abuse may result in immediate dismissal without refund.

Weapons, alcohol, tobacco, and vaping are not allowed on academy premises, in the immediate parking area, or at academy-sponsored events. Please keep in mind there is no waiting area available inside or outside the classroom, and groups of parents hanging out together in the parking lot are not permitted.

Our standard:
Respect the space. Respect the teachers. Respect one another.

5. Tuition & Membership

Our programs operate year-round. Tuition continues through summer, holidays, vacations, and school breaks because the academy’s operating costs continue year-round.

Please note:

  • Tuition cannot be paused or placed on hold.

  • All tuition and fees are non-refundable.

  • Membership cancellations must be submitted in writing.

  • Cancellation notices must be sent at least 7 business days before the next payment.

  • Texts, voicemails, and verbal notices are not accepted as cancellation.

  • A declined payment may result in a $35 NSF fee.

To cancel a membership:
Send written notice to amoreno@ollinyoliztli.com at least 7 business days before your next payment.

6. Performances & Extra Opportunities

Ollin Yoliztli participates in many community events each year. Performance participation is optional and usually requires sign-up 1 to 2 weeks in advance.

Some events may have special instructions for parents, including designated parent areas or student drop-off only rules. For the majority of events, only the student and one parent are allowed to come in. If the event offers paid access, each additional family member must buy their own admission. Families must follow the rules of each venue.

Additional classes or programs, such as Mariachi, Karate, or Nahuatl, may be offered at no extra cost when available, but they may change or be cancelled depending on budget and scheduling.

When performances are available:
Watch for announcements, sign up on time, and carefully review event instructions.
